Limit Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol is a known carcinogen to humans, meaning scientific studies have proven that it can cause cancer. In fact, alcohol is associated with an increased incidence of several types of cancers including:
  • mouth
  • pharynx (throat)
  • larynx (voice box)
  • esophagus
  • liver
  • breast
  • probably colon & rectum
If you choose to drink alcohol, you should limit your consumption to two drinks per day if you're a male, and one drink per day if you're a female.

A drink is defined as one of the following:
  • 12 ounces of beer
  • 5 ounces of wine
  • or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits
In addition, smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol increases the risk of some cancers even more than the effect of drinking or smoking alone.
